Following her retirement several years ago, Beverley Peterson decided to devote her life and her small $5,000 pension to help the children living on the streets of Cape Town. She spends her days counseling these children one-to-one and feeding a group of them three times a day. Beverley has developed such deep trust with some of these children that she has been able to convince a number of them to return to their homes. She can point to 27 children who have returned home and stayed there for a year or more as a result of her efforts. A child sponsorship program will enable even more of the street children to return home, since it will alleviate the extreme poverty that caused many of them to leave home in the first place.
Thousands of children in Africa suffer due to circumstances they did not create. In South Africa alone the numbers of suffering children is staggering. You can help a little child in SA to realize his/her dreams. By starting a child sponsorship for only $26 per month you can ensure that child and his/her family benefit.
Depending on the community goals this may mean regular meals, shelter, clean water, health care and educational opportunities. A channel of direct communication will be opened between the sponsor and child.
New Hearts for Africa is involved in a number of outreach programs in numerous Cape Town neighborhoods ranging from once-per-month feeding programs to "fun days".
Can you help New Hearts for Africa be even more effective reaching out to the children of Cape Town by convincing some of them to return home, and improving the lives of those who remain on the streets?
